Finally, in 2018, the wheels started turning for real. Amy's estate gave the green light for a biopic focused on her life and music. Production came together under the Monumental Pictures banner, led by Alison Owen and Debra Hayward, with Nicky Kentish-Barnes also on board as a producer. Casting the movie proved to be a key step. In early 2023, it was announced that newcomer Marisa Abela would portray the iconic singer.

O'Connell stepped into the role of Blake Fielder-Civil, Amy's ex-husband, while Marsan and Manville were cast as her father, Mitch Winehouse, and grandmother, Cynthia Winehouse, respectively. Amy's mother, Janis Winehouse, was played by Juliet Cowan. The casting process was overseen by Nina Gold. Filming began in London in January 2023 and wrapped up four months later in April. Polly Morgan brought her talents on board as the film's cinematographer.

To capture the essence of Amy's life, scenes were shot at various locations that held significance for her. Cameras rolled at the legendary Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, outside her first apartment in Camden Town, and even at the scenic Primrose Hill. Additionally, filming took place inside Metropolis Studios and on location at Fitzroy Square and the London Zoo.
