What are Burnt Chapaatis?

Burnt Chapaatis is a relative measure of how badly a movie performs at the box office. It is not a reflection of the quality of the movie.  The number of Burnt Chapaatis depends on how many magnitudes below the Budget is the ticketing revenue, magnitude being 100% of Budget. A low number of Burnt Chapaatis indicates the movie has done poorly but not that badly. A high number of course means the movie has performed disastrously.

What are Lakshmis?

As with the Burnt Chapaatis, Lakshmis are a relative measure of box office success. Ticket revenue that pays for the cost or Budget of the movie and exceeds it by several magnitudes will result in earning a Lakshmi for each magnitude. Lakshmis take into account not only the box office receipts but also royalty and licensing deals as well as sales of non-theatrical rights.

Why do you have so many criteria for rating movies?

Rating a movie on a single dimension based on an overall “look and feel” and arbitrarily assigning a rating is really not scientific and seems unfair. On Somindram there are 14 criteria for Film Production rating alone. Then each actor can be rated independently. Songs are rated on 5 more criteria.  See further information on  Ratings on Somindram
