Story

Sarbjit is a 2016 Hindi biographical drama film, directed by Omung Kumar. The movie tells the story of Sarabjit Singh, a farmer from Punjab, India, who was convicted by a Pakistani court of terrorism and spying in 1991 and sentenced to death. His sister Dalbir Kaur (played by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan), with the help of lawyer Awais Sheikh (played by Darshan Kumar), fought for twenty-two years to free her brother from the Pakistani jail. After numerous petitions to Pakistani presidents, including Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Sarabjit was released in 2013 but died shortly after due to injuries sustained in a prison attack. The film captures the emotional struggle of Sarabjit's family, as they fight an uphill battle against the Pakistani government and legal system for his freedom. It also highlights the strength of Dalbir’s love for her brother and her unwavering devotion to seeing justice done. In the end, despite Sarabjit not being granted freedom, his sister succeeds in bringing him hom...
