Story

Maya and Ryan end up in an eerie Oregon town when their car breaks down. Forced to stay overnight at a remote Airbnb cabin, their idyllic evening shatters with a knock at the door. A creepy girl asks for someone named Tamara. Unease creeps in as the night deepens. When Ryan ventures out for supplies, Maya is left alone, the silence punctuated by unsettling sounds.

Their sense of security crumbles further when three masked figures – Dollface, Pin-Up, and Scarecrow – appear on the porch, taunting them with nursery rhymes. The couple barricades themselves in, but the relentless strangers exploit every weakness, toying with them like sadistic puppeteers. Maya and Ryan fight for survival in a brutal game of cat and mouse, their hope dwindling as the night wears on.

The Movie Report

The movie marks the beginning of a fresh trilogy of standalone stories, with “Chapter 1” serving as a prelude to the original film, sharing its foundational premise and existing within the same narrative world as the initial two films.

The subsequent chapters, “Chapter 2” and “Chapter 3,” are anticipated for release later in 2024 and at a date yet to be determined, respectively. In August 2022, Roy Lee, the producer, unveiled plans for a trio of films to sequentially start production from September 2022. Renny Harlin was identified as the director for at least one installment, with ongoing discussions for him to helm the entire trilogy.

As the year progressed, Harlin was confirmed as the director for all three forthcoming films, with the inaugural film of the new trilogy penned by Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freedland, based on a story by Bryan Bertino.

This new series aims to reintroduce the “world of The Strangers” to a new audience, as stated by producer Canton, with an intention to craft a more expansive narrative. The trilogy is described as a “character study” and is set within the same universe as the original films, a fact later confirmed by the creators and cast.
