Story

Biraj Bahu is a 1954 Bengali drama film directed by Amar Mullick, based on the novel of the same name written by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay. The story centers around Biraj, a young woman from an aristocratic family in rural Bengal. She is betrothed to a man she does not love, and instead falls for a poor but honest village boy named Nilambar. After much struggle, they eventually get married, but their union is met with hostility from both sides of the family. In spite of this, Biraj and Nilambar remain together and work hard to make a living. Eventually, they are accepted into the community, thanks to the love and support of those around them. This heartwarming tale shows how true love always triumphs over all social boundaries.
