Story

Partition: 1947 is a 2017 British-Indian historical period drama film written and directed by Gurinder Chadha. The film recounts the story of India's partition in 1947 and the events leading up to it. It follows a young Hindu man, Jawaharlal Nehru (played by Hugh Bonneville), who is appointed as the last Viceroy of India, charged with overseeing British withdrawal from the country. Meanwhile, a young Muslim woman (played by Huma Qureshi) is caught in the crossfire of the mounting religious tensions between Hindus and Muslims and must choose between her family and her own beliefs. The film culminates in the violent upheaval of the Partition of India, when millions of people were displaced and forced to find new homes across the newly formed borders. Partition: 1947 is a powerful reminder of the human cost of political conflict and the importance of tolerance and understanding in building a peaceful world.
