Story

The Lunchbox is a 2013 Indian romantic drama film about a mistaken delivery in Mumbai's famously efficient lunchbox delivery system, which connects a young housewife to an older man through their lunchtime meals. The film follows the story of Ila, a neglected housewife who attempts to add some spice to her marriage by preparing special meals for her husband. When her husband fails to recognize her efforts, the lunchbox is sent to the wrong address and ends up with Saajan Fernandes, a lonely widower about to retire. Through their exchanged notes, they build a friendship that blossoms into an unexpected love affair. The Lunchbox celebrates the small moments of joy in life as Ila and Saajan find solace in each other’s company. It is a tale of finding companionship and comfort in unlikely places. In a world where food is a metaphor for love, The Lunchbox explores the themes of loneliness, longing and companionship.
