The Householder 1963

The Householder is a 1963 Indian comedy-drama film directed by Merchant Ivory Productions. It follows the story of Prem, a young man from an upper middle class family in India. He is expected to marry, but he instead falls in love with a woman who is a poor student. His parents disapprove of this and try to arrange a marriage for him. In response, Prem decides to take charge of his own life and assert his independence. The film follows his journey as he discovers the joys and difficulties of living on his own.
