Story

The Chess Players is a 1977 Hindi-language film directed by Satyajit Ray. It tells the story of two wealthy men, Mirza Sajjad Ali (Sanjeev Kumar) and Mir Roshan Ali (Saeed Jaffrey), who are more interested in playing chess than in attending to their business. The two friends become increasingly obsessed with the game as the British Raj takes over their kingdom. When the British refuse to accept their demands for autonomy, the two men become embroiled in a battle that will determine the fate of their kingdom. In the end, the two men must make a difficult decision between loyalty to their kingdom or their love of chess. Ultimately, they decide to stand by their kingdom and restore it to its former glory.
