Shaheed is a 1948 Indian drama film directed by Ramesh Saigal. The movie follows the life of Bhagat Singh, an influential revolutionary of the Indian independence movement. It starts with Bhagat and his comrades in jail awaiting execution for their role in the struggle. Led by Singh, they are nevertheless determined to continue fighting for freedom from British rule. The movie then chronicles the events leading up to Singh's arrest and eventual martyrdom. These include a daring escape from Lahore jail and his involvement in the historic bombing of the Central Legislative Assembly in Delhi. Along the way, he inspires and mobilizes people across the country to join the cause of independence. Despite all attempts to capture him, Bhagat remains successful in evading the authorities until his eventual arrest and execution.
