Story

Sardar Udham is a biopic of Udham Singh, a Punjabi Sikh revolutionary who assassinated Michael O'Dwyer, the former lieutenant governor of the Punjab in India, on 13 March 1940. The film begins with Udham being released from prison in Punjab, British India. He is constantly being watched by the colonial authorities. He leaves India and travels to the USSR during the winter. From there, he makes his way to London by ship.

In London, Udham lives a quiet life, working as a waiter and studying the history of the British Raj. He is still haunted by the events of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, in which British troops opened fire on a peaceful gathering of unarmed Indians, killing hundreds.

One day, Udham sees O'Dwyer at a public event. He realizes that this is his chance to avenge the victims of the massacre.

Shooting locations

The film Sardar Udham was filmed in India, England, Russia, and Ireland. The film's director, Shoojit Sircar, wanted to create a realistic portrayal of the time period and the events that the film depicts, so he chose to shoot the film in actual locations. In India, the film was shot in Amritsar, where the Jallianwala Bagh massacre took place. The filmmakers also shot scenes in London, where Udham Singh assassinated Michael O'Dwyer, the former lieutenant governor of Punjab. In Russia, the filmmakers shot scenes in a former prison camp that was used to detain political prisoners during the Soviet era. This helped to create a sense of authenticity for the film's depiction of Udham Singh's time in prison. Finally, the filmmakers shot a few scenes in Ireland. These scenes were used to depict Udham Singh's journey to London. The film's decision to shoot in real locations helped to create a sense of authenticity and realism.
