Saaz 1998

Saaz is a 1998 Indian film which follows the story of a young woman in Rajasthan. The protagonist, Champa (played by Shabana Azmi), is a singer and dancer who lives in a small town. She is married to a man named Bhola (played by Om Puri), but she is unhappy in their marriage and longs to pursue her music career. When Champa meets a renowned classical music teacher, Ustad Sultan Khan (played by Naseeruddin Shah), she is inspired to follow her dreams of becoming a professional singer. Ustad Sultan Khan teaches her the intricacies of classical singing, and Champa soon becomes an accomplished vocalist. Despite opposition from her husband and other members of society, Champa continues to pursue her musical aspirations, eventually performing at a prestigious concert. Through her determination and hard work, Champa is able to achieve her dream and gain respect as a professional musician.
