Story

Razia Sultan is a 1983 Bollywood epic historical drama film directed by Kamal Amrohi. The film tells the story of Razia Sultan, the first female ruler of the Delhi Sultanate in 13th century India. The film starts with Razia's father, Sultan Iltutmish, making her his successor and educating her in warfare and politics. After his death, Razia faces threats from her brothers who oppose her rule and try to overthrow her. With the help of her advisor, Jamaluddin Yaqut, she manages to hold on to power and prove her worth as a leader. However, her eldest brother plots against her with the help of Turkic slave Malik Altunia. As the story progresses, Razia and Altunia fall in love and get married, despite objection from the court. Ultimately, they are killed while defending Delhi from an invading army. The film ends with a tribute to Razia's legacy as the first woman ruler of the Delhi Sultanate.
