Story

Ponga Pandit is a 1975 Indian drama film directed by Gulzar and starring Sanjeev Kumar, Moushumi Chatterjee, and Sharmila Tagore in lead roles. The story follows the life of Ponga, an orphan who is taken in by his adoptive father, a village chieftain. Ponga's childhood is filled with love and care from his family, but as he grows up, he develops an affinity for the city and its culture. He goes to college in the city and eventually becomes a lawyer. However, when he returns to his village after completing his studies, he finds that his father has passed away and left him in charge of the village. Ponga reluctantly takes up the responsibility but uses his legal knowledge to help the people of the village. In the process, he wins their love and respect. Despite his newfound power, he still yearns for the city and eventually leaves his village to pursue his career.
