Story

Parakh is a 1960 Indian film directed by Bimal Roy. The story follows the life of Uma, a young woman who has been forced into an arranged marriage with a wealthy man. Uma's husband soon dies after their wedding, and she is left alone to fend for herself in a world where women are treated as second-class citizens. She finds solace in working for a local lawyer, and eventually falls in love with him. Uma is faced with a difficult decision when her husband's family comes looking for her. She must choose between her newfound freedom or return to a loveless, oppressive life. In the end, Uma chooses to stay with the lawyer and live a life of true fulfillment and happiness. Parakh explores themes of love, freedom, and gender roles in India during the early 20th century. Through its compelling characters, powerful story, and memorable scenes, the film highlights the struggles of an independent woman in a society that represses her.
