Story

Panipat is a 2019 Indian historical war drama film directed by Ashutosh Gowariker. It is based on the third battle of Panipat which took place on 14 January 1761 between the Maratha Empire led by Sadashiv Rao Bhau and the invading forces of Ahmad Shah Abdali, the King of Afghanistan. The movie focuses on the struggles of Sadashiv and his wife Parvati Bai as they fight to protect their kingdom from the foreign attack. Despite being outnumbered, Sadashiv and his army fiercely defend their kingdom but succumb to the superior strength of the Afghan forces. In the end, Sadashiv sacrifices himself for the sake of his kingdom and is hailed as a hero. Despite losing the battle, the Marathas are remembered fondly in Indian history for their bravery and courage in the face of impossible odds.
