Story

Newton is a 2017 Indian black comedy film about a government clerk who attempts to conduct an election in a conflict-ridden jungle of Chhattisgarh. Newton Kumar, the protagonist, is sent on election duty to a Naxal-controlled village where few people are willing to vote due to fear of the rebels. He tries hard to ensure that the villagers cast their ballots, but finds himself in an impossible situation when the security forces accompanying him are more interested in killing the rebels than ensuring free and fair elections. Despite all this, he remains determined to fulfill his duties as a civil servant. With the help of a local woman, he succeeds in convincing the locals to vote. In the end, he wins their trust as well as their respect. His commitment to democracy and fair elections inspires others to overcome their fears and stand up for their rights.
