Story

Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola is a 2013 Indian satirical comedy-drama film directed by Vishal Bhardwaj and starring Imran Khan, Anushka Sharma and Pankaj Kapur. The story follows Matru (Khan), a local taxi driver whose life is disrupted when a wealthy industrialist, Harry Mandola (Kapur), decides to build a power plant in their rural village. Despite his better judgment, Matru must side with Mandola to protect the villagers. As the two come into conflict with each other, they also become embroiled in a love triangle involving Harry's daughter Bijlee (Sharma). In the end, Matru and Bijlee reconcile and the power plant is built. However, the villagers are left with a heavy burden of debt as they have been forced to use their land as collateral for the loan from Harry. While there is still a happy ending, it is bittersweet, as the villagers are now in even more dire straits than before.
