Story

Manthan is a 1976 Indian Hindi-language drama film directed by Shyam Benegal. It tells the story of a group of farmers in Gujarat who come together to form a cooperative dairy, and how the dairy helps transform their lives for the better. The film follows the story of a young veterinarian, Dr. Rao, who moves to a rural village in Gujarat. He is determined to help the poor farmers there improve their lives by forming a milk cooperative. After much effort, he succeeds in convincing the farmers to come together and form a co-operative dairy. The farmers soon realise the importance of working together as a team, and the co-operative dairy brings them both economic prosperity and social empowerment. As the cooperative grows, so does the confidence of the farmers and their sense of self-worth. Manthan is a story of hope, determination, and the power of collective action. It shows how a group of people can work together to achieve greater success than they could have ever achieved alone.
