Story

Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India is the story of a small village in British-occupied India. The people of this village, led by Bhuvan, are burdened with high taxes imposed by the oppressive British rulers. Bhuvan challenges these rulers to a game of cricket, which the villagers have no knowledge of. If the villagers win, they will be exempt from the taxes for three years. As the villagers struggle to learn the game and build a team, they must also contend with the devious tactics of their opponents. Ultimately, the villagers are triumphant and the British are forced to leave the village in peace. Through determination and courage, the villagers prove that anything is possible.
