Kinara is a 1977 Hindi drama film directed by Gulzar. It stars Amol Palekar, Suhasini Mulay, Girish Karnad and Om Shivpuri. The story follows the life of Lalita (Mulay), a young wife whose husband, Prabhakar (Palekar), works abroad. She is content with her marriage until she meets Vikram (Karnad), a dashing poet who finds her attractive. They fall in love and decide to elope, but Lalita soon realizes the consequences of leaving Prabhakar and decides against it. Meanwhile, Prabhakar returns home and discovers the situation. He forgives Lalita and agrees to keep their marriage intact. In the end, Lalita decides to stay with Prabhakar, realising that true love and respect can be found in the sanctity of marriage. The film provides an insightful commentary on the meaning of true love and the importance of understanding and compromise in relationships.
