Story

Kabuliwala is a 1961 Indian drama film directed by Hemen Gupta and based on a story by Rabindranath Tagore. The plot follows a Pashtun man from Afghanistan who sells items door-to-door to make ends meet in Calcutta, India. During his travels he meets a young Bengali girl, Mini, with whom he develops a deep bond. When her father discovers their friendship, he forces Kabuliwala to leave the city without saying goodbye. Years later, when Mini has grown up, she reunites with Kabuliwala and learns why he had to leave. The story is a powerful exploration of human connection and the strength of love and loyalty that transcends boundaries. Kabuliwala's sacrifice and devotion to his new family serves as a reminder that no matter where we come from, we can find belonging and connection if we open our hearts.
