Story

Jodidar is a story about a family in India of four generations. A young man named Raja is the head of the household, and his mother's death has left him with a great deal of responsibility. He marries a woman named Ganga, who is from a lower caste. In order to keep his family together, Raja makes a promise to Ganga that he will treat her as an equal and will never look down on her due to her caste. Despite their efforts, Raja's family begins to fall apart due to external pressures from both society and the government. When Ganga gives birth to a son, tensions between the two families reach a boiling point. To keep his family together, Raja follows through on his promise and adopts his son into his family. Despite all this, the family struggles to make ends meet and Raja must make a difficult decision. In the end, Raja decides to sacrifice his dreams and take on a job he is offered by a rich landlord.
