Twelve-year-old Bea, burdened by a recent loss, moves to Brooklyn with her quirky grandma. Feeling out of place, she discovers a hidden world – forgotten imaginary friends. Bea can see them all, from a grumpy warthog to a nervous talking hat. These lonely creatures, abandoned as their human companions grew up, yearn for connection.

With a neighbor who also sees them, Bea embarks on adventures to help the IFs. She uses her imagination to create a haven for them and reignite their hope. Through laughter, tears, and a touch of magic, Bea not only helps the IFs, but also confronts her own grief, finding solace in the power of imagination and the beauty of friendship, even in unexpected forms.

Back in October 2019, Paramount Pictures won a bidding war to make a movie called "Imaginary Friends." John Krasinski, known for directing and starring in "The Office," would write and direct the film, with Ryan Reynolds also starring. They signed a deal with Paramount in May 2021. By January 2022, the movie was renamed "IF" and even more actors signed on, including Steve Carell (Krasinski's old co-star from "The Office").

Filming began in August 2022 and wrapped up by May 2023. It used special effects to bring imaginary friends to life. The music was composed by Michael Giacchino.

"IF" premiered in France on May 8, 2024. In the US, it was originally supposed to come out in November 2023, but the release got pushed back to May 2024, then moved up a week to May 17th. It opened alongside other movies and is expected to make a good amount of money at the box office.
