Story

The story of "Gumraah" revolves around a murder investigation that becomes complicated after the police discover two lookalike suspects. Arjun Sehgal (Aditya Roy Kapur) is a successful businessman, while Sooraj Rana (also Aditya Roy Kapur) is a small-time criminal. Both men are accused of the murder of Aakash Sardana (Atul Kulkarni), a wealthy businessman.

The police are initially convinced that Sooraj is the killer, but Arjun's alibi seems airtight. However, as the investigation progresses, more and more evidence begins to point to Arjun's guilt. The police are also suspicious of Arjun's girlfriend, Shivani Mathur (Mrunal Thakur), who is a police officer herself.

As the case becomes more complex, it becomes clear that there is more to the story than meets the eye. The two brothers have a dark past that comes back to haunt them, and the truth about who killed Aakash Sardana is not easy to come by.

The film is a suspenseful thriller that keeps you guessing until the very end. I...

The Movie Report

Aditya Roy Kapur was cast in the lead role of the film, which was announced in October 2021. Mrunal Thakur and Ronit Roy were later added to the cast. Principal photography began on the occasion of Dussehra in October 2021 and wrapped up on July 16, 2022.

The film's marketing campaign launched in February 2023, with the first teaser released on February 14, 2023, and the trailer released on March 11, 2023. The film was released in theaters on April 7, 2023.

The film received mixed reviews from critics, with some praising the performances of the cast and others criticizing the predictable plot. It was also a box office disappointment, grossing only ₹10.68 crore (US$1.3 million) worldwide.

One of the controversies surrounding the film was that it was a remake of the Tamil film Thadam. Some people felt that the film was unnecessary and that it was simply a cash grab, while others felt that it was a good remake that captured the essence of the original film.
