Shamsher Patty is a highly skilled pilot but is known to be recless with a disturbing history possibly because of poor relationship with his father. He soon clashes with his fellow pilots, especially Squadron Leader Minal "Minni" Rathore (Padukone), who is Rocky's daughter and the only female pilot in the team.

As the Air Dragons carry out various operations against enemy forces and terrorists, they also have to deal with personal issues, such as love, friendship, rivalry, betrayal and loss. Minni and Patty started developing feelings for each other, relationship is affected by their conflicting personalities.

Meanwhile Rocky, too, faces pressure from his superiors and the media, as he tries to keep his team together and protect the nation's security. The film reaches its climax when the Air Dragons are tasked with a covert mission to destroy a nuclear facility in Pakistan, which is planning to launch a missile attack on India. The mission is risky and requires precise timing and coordination.

Patty volunteers to lead the mission, despite knowing that it could be his last. He also reconciles with his father and proposes to Minni, who accepts. The film ends with a thrilling aerial battle, in which Patty and his team manage to accomplish the mission, but at a heavy cost. Patty sacrifices his life to save his comrades and his country, becoming a national hero and a legend among the Air Dragons.
