With an original title of "Inappropriate Behavior" Filming started in September 2022, with the bustling streets of Westwood and Jersey City serving as backdrops for the story. From the very beginning, the filmmakers knew they wanted an actor with autism to portray the central character. 15-year-old William Fitzgerald with dreams of starting a YouTube channel sent in an audition tape, not expecting much, but his talent shone through, landing him the coveted role of Ezra.

The casting magic continued with Robert De Niro joining the cast. De Niro, with one of his own children on the autism spectrum, felt a deep connection to the film's message. Whoopi Goldberg was another casting coup. Goldwyn simply reached out, and she agreed to be part of the project even before reading the script – a testament to the power of the story.

To ensure authenticity, "Ezra" welcomed autistic crew members onto the set, fostering a truly inclusive environment.
