Dostana is a 1980 Indian romantic drama about two men who pretend to be gay in order to rent an apartment from a conservative landlady. The two men, Kishan and Sharma, are friends and find themselves in need of a place to live in Mumbai. When they come across the perfect flat, they discover that the landlady will only rent it to a gay couple, so they decide to pose as a gay couple to get the apartment. As their friendship grows, so does their feelings for each other. They eventually find themselves in a confusing situation where they must choose between love or friendship. In the end, Kishan and Sharma decide to stay friends and continue to live together in the apartment.
