The story follows the life of a petty thief, Bhiku Mhatre (Dutt), who is hired by a local don, Rizwan Hussain (Rawal). He is asked to deliver a package containing a secret document to a person in Mumbai. When Bhiku reaches Mumbai, he discovers that the package contains money and not what he was expecting. He then uses the money to help his friend, Chandu (Puri) elope with his love, Manisha (Matondkar). Meanwhile, Rizwan hires a hitman, Sultan (Rajpal Yadav), to track down Bhiku and retrieve the package. In the end, Bhiku escapes with the money and Manisha, but Chandu is killed in the process. Despite this tragedy, Bhiku and Manisha manage to escape with the money and start a new life together.
