Story

Court is a 2014 Indian courtroom drama film originally written in Marathi, directed by Chaitanya Tamhane and produced by Zoo Entertainment. The film follows the trial of an ageing folk singer at a Mumbai Sessions Court, accused of performing an inflammatory song which allegedly incited a sewage worker to commit suicide. An old man, Narayan Kamble, is arrested and put on trial for inciting a sewage worker to commit suicide through one of his protest songs. Through the trial, the film examines the Indian legal system and questions how justice is served. It shows how the court proceedings are influenced by politics, bureaucracy, and vested interests. The film is told from various perspectives, including those of the public prosecutor, defense lawyer, judge, and the accused himself. Ultimately, it is a story about the country's flawed judicial system, and how people are often unjustly judged by it.
