Story

Chhoti Bahen is a 1959 Indian drama film directed by L.V. Prasad. It stars Balraj Sahni, Nanda and Leela Chitnis in the lead roles. The story revolves around two sisters, Sheela (Nanda) and Bela (Leela Chitnis). Both come from a middle-class family that consists of their parents, brother and uncle. Sheela and Bela are very close, but Sheela has always been the obedient one while Bela takes more risks. As the two grow older, Sheela gets married to a wealthy man while Bela falls in love with a struggling medical student. This leads to tension between the two sisters and their families. Though Bela is reluctant to break off the relationship, she eventually agrees to marry another wealthy man to keep her family happy. The movie follows the sisters as they learn to understand each other and appreciate each other’s choices.
