The genesis of the *Borderlands* cinematic adaptation can be traced back to 2011 when Gearbox Software's visionary, Randy Pitchford, first broached the idea with seasoned producers Avi and Ari Arad. Interest in bringing the chaotic world of Pandora to the silver screen steadily grew, with Leigh Whannell initially attached to helm the project in 2015. Yet, the director's involvement remained shrouded in ambiguity.

Subsequent years witnessed a carousel of screenwriters as the project navigated development hell. The director's chair was no less tumultuous, with Eli Roth eventually taking the reins, only to relinquish some control to Tim Miller for reshoots.
