Story

Begum Jaan is a 2017 Indian period drama film directed by Srijit Mukherji and produced by Mahesh Bhatt, Mukesh Bhatt, and Sakshi Bhatt. The movie follows the story of an Indian brothel and its inhabitants, set in the time of the Partition of India in 1947. Begum Jaan is a strong-willed woman who runs a brothel in rural India. As news of the impending Partition of India spreads, Begum and her staff are faced with a difficult decision: to either leave their home or stay. Despite warnings from their landlord, Begum refuses to relocate and remains determined to keep her home. The movie follows the events that occur as the Partition draws nearer and Begum's brothel is caught in the crossfire. Despite obstacles posed by both sides of the conflict, Begum and her staff remain steadfast in their commitment to their home.
