Story

Aligarh is a 2016 Indian drama film based on the true story of Dr. Shrinivas Ramchandra Siras, who was suspended from his job at Aligarh Muslim University due to his sexual orientation. The film follows the struggles of Siras as he faces isolation and public humiliation after being outed by a local TV channel. He finds an unlikely ally in journalist Deepu Sebastian, who documents Siras' plight and helps him fight for justice. Despite facing numerous obstacles, Siras eventually wins his case against the university and is reinstated in his position. However, the story does not end there as he tragically dies soon after. Aligarh is a powerful tale of courage and perseverance, showing us that even in the face of adversity, it is possible to fight for one's rights and prevail.
