23rd March 1931: Shaheed is a 2002 Indian biographical film about Bhagat Singh, the legendary freedom fighter. The movie tells the story of Bhagat Singh's life and struggle for India's independence from British colonial rule. The film begins with Bhagat Singh's childhood in Punjab and his exposure to the political and social upheavals of the time. His parents were members of the Ghadar party and taught him to fight for justice against British tyranny. Bhagat Singh soon joined the Hindustan Republican Association and became involved in a number of revolutionary activities. He was arrested and jailed for his involvement in the Lahore Conspiracy case, but while in prison he continued to organize protests and demonstrate against British rule. After being released from prison, Bhagat Singh joined forces with Chandra Shekhar Azad and founded the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association.
